Namibian President reaffirms solidarity with Cuba

“Our principled stance of solidarity with Cuba remains steadfast”, declared Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, today during her State of the Nation address.

At the Parliament building, with the participation of members of parliament, the diplomatic corps, and invited guests, the President answered a round of questions. When asked about the state of Namibia's relations with the United States, she commented that her country maintains diplomatic relations with that government as part of the global community, but that does not mean it agrees with everything it does.

She noted that at the United Nations General Assembly every year, Namibia supports Cuba and demands an end to the blockade. Similarly, at the African Union General Assembly, Namibia has sponsored a resolution, which has always been approved, to end the aggressive policies of the United States against the Cuban people.

Cuba has been a constant presence in the Namibian Head of State's annual address to Parliament, highlighting historical gratitude for its assistance in the fight against apartheid and its unwavering support against the US blockade.

Under the leadership of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Cuba's role in the struggle for independence, the island's selfless solidarity, cooperation in key sectors, and defense of the sovereignty of the largest of the Antilles have been emphasized.
