BANGKOK, May 20, 2020.- The President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Thailand and Speaker of the House of Representatives, H.E. Mr. Chuan Leekpai, received the Cuban ambassador to Thailand, Héctor Conde Almeida, in the framework of the 62 anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
At the cordial meeting, the good state of bilateral relations was confirmed and the mutual will to continue strengthening them was reiterated, with an emphasis on parliamentary exchanges. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation actions in public health, science, tourism, culture, sports and, especially, in the area of biotechnological applications for the benefit of both peoples.
The Cuban Ambassador presented a message of solidarity from the Cuban National Assembly of the People's Power (ANPP) on the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, which denounces the actions by United States government to strengthen its blockade against Cuba in the midst of this critical world situation and rejects the arbitrary inclusion of Cuba by the Trump administration in the spurious list of “countries that do not cooperate with anti-terrorism efforts”. The Cuban diplomat exposed data that illustrate the solidarity vocation of the Cuban Revolution through international medical cooperation, which, he explained, the attempts of the US government to discredit and hinder it have not been able to impede.
The President of the National Assembly praised the achievements of the Cuban Revolution, the broad representation of Cuban women in all facets of society, especially in the ANPP, and reiterated the support of that Asian nation for the United Nations Resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba for more than 58 years.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of joint efforts in defense of multilateralism and international law, as well as maintaining close cooperation in the various forums, including those related to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 agenda, the World Health Organization (WHO), South-South cooperation; the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC); the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM); the Paris Agreement on climate change; as well as support for the United Nations Treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons.
The Cuban Ambassador delivered the first call for the 5th. International Conference "For the Balance of the World: With All and for the good of All", announced to be held in Havana on the occasion of the 168th anniversary of the birth of the Apostle of Cuban independence, José Martí, from January 26 to 29, 2021.
