Cairo, July 27, 2026.—Yesterday, at the Cuban Embassy in Cairo, a celebration was held to mark the 73rd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks. The occasion provided an opportunity to pay tribute to the Historic Leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, in the year of his centennial, with a screening of the documentary “Moments with Fidel,” which summarizes key episodes in Fidel’s life following the revolutionary triumph of January 1, 1959.
Cuban Ambassador Alexander Pellicer Moraga thanked those present for their participation in the evening’s event and highlighted the historical significance of July 26, which marked the resumption of the Cuban people’s struggle for true sovereignty and independence. The Cuban diplomat emphasized that the celebration takes on special significance as it takes place in the year of the Commander-in-Chief’s centennial.
In his remarks, Pellicer Moraga denounced the intensification of the blockade against Cuba and the energy blockade imposed by the United States against the island, which is causing great suffering to the Cuban people, describing it as a “silent genocide.” He also asserted that, despite the difficulties, the Cuban people continue to resist and will defend their homeland against any attempt at aggression by imperialism.
The celebration, marked by support and solidarity with Cuba, was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, members of the Egypt-Cuba Friendship Association, political party leaders, journalists, academics, university students, and Cuban residents. (Embacuba Egipto)
