A delegation from the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), headed by its National President, Mr. Kofi Portuphy, and the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, visited the Embassy of Cuba in Ghana, with the aim of expressing their heartfelt condolences to the government, the Communist Party and the people of Cuba on the occasion of the fatal plane crash that occurred on May 18. They were received by the Ambassador, Pedro Luis Despaigne González, who thanked them for their presence with Cuba in a moment of pain.
The leaders of the NDC, stressed that during the last meeting of its National Executive Committee agreed to meet at the Cuban Embassy to send a message of solidarity to the families of those who died in that catastrophe. They also requested information about the status of the two survivors.
During the meeting, the Ambassador updated the party leaders some elements about the accident on the flight that covered the Havana-Holguín route, emphasized the actions carried out for the recovery of the bodies, and in the investigative process underway to determine the causes of the disaster, as well as the attention that the Cuban government has given to the families of the victims.
After thanking the solidarity gesture of the leaders of the NDC and other friends of Cuba in Ghana, the diplomat, who made reference to the common history of the peoples of Cuba and Ghana, confirmed his commitment to continue working for its strengthening. The representatives of the NDC, for their part, reiterated their support for Cuba in its confrontation with the blockade, and its friendship with the Communist Party of Cuba.
The NDC delegation was also composed of: the National Vice President, Mr. Lee Occran; the National Organizer, Mr. Kofi Adams; the Director of International Relations, Mr. Kofi Attor; the Party Administrator, Mr. Emmanuel Zamakpeh; the Deputy National Director of Elections, Mr. Bede Zedeng; the Vice leader of the youth branch, Mr. Kobby Barbon; the former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and former parliamentarian, Ms. Hanna Bissiw; and Dr. Karl Mark Arhim, Deputy Director of International Relations of the party, the last two graduates in Cuba.
