Vientiane, August 10, 2023. The Cuban Foreign Ministry argues the urgent need to eliminate the illegal and prolonged economic, commercial and financial blockade that violates the Human Rights of Cuba, extended to third countries due to its extraterritorial nature.
In a brief summary, he highlights the most perverse and harmful measures for the Cuban economy and population:
• The unjustified inclusion of Cuba on the United States government's arbitrary list of states that allegedly sponsor terrorism. This is an instrument of economic coercion.
• The application of the provision of title three of the Helm-Burton Act. This is an action aimed at preventing foreign investment and damaging foreign trade by threatening companies anywhere in the world.
• The persecution of fuel supplies that the country needs and has every right to import. It is an aggressive action that violates international law, which remains in force against Cuba with a significant impact.
• The intense persecution and demonization of medical services provided by Cuban professionals in dozes of countries. Thus, an activity that has wide international recognition for the humanitarian benefit it offers is attacked.
• The also arbitrary list of Cuban entities with which Americans are prohibited from relating. It is a measure directed fundamentally against the tourism sector and seeks to limit income to the economy through this route.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs concludes that all of the above are only illustrative examples. They are all arbitrary and punitive decisions. For this reason, together with the blockade as a whole, they provoke universal rejection, reiterating in multiple international forums.
