Abuja, October 18th, 2023.- This morning, Ambassador Miriam Morales Palmero presented to Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, the credentials that accredit her as Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cuba to the Community Organization of West African States (ECOWAS).
During the meeting, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray highlighted Cuba's prestige in the training and quality of human resources, especially with regard to the health sector. He thanked Cuba for its constant support and contribution to the development of African countries and especially those that are part of this regional organization. The exchange took place in a cordial atmosphere, a reflection of Cuba's good relations with said organization.
The ambassador thanked the President for his words and reaffirmed that Cuba was prepared to begin cooperation with ECOWAS and continue contributing to the development and well-being of the African people.
Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, of Gambian nationality, took office as the new president of the ECOWAS Commission for a period of four years, in July 2022, replacing Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, of Ivorian nationality, at the head of the Commission from 2018 to date. The appointments were made at the 61st Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Accra on July 3, 2022.
Third Secretary Ana Flavia Gómez Pavot was also present on the Cuban side; while the Director of External Relations, Mr. Jerome Boa, and the Special Adviser to the President, Hon. Mambury Njie, also participated on the other side.
