Islamabad, June 7, 2021 - The new ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Zéner Javier Caro González, presented on Monday his credentials to the president of the South Asian nation, Dr. Arif Alvi.
During the exchange, the Cuban diplomat conveyed greetings from the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and expressed his willingness to work hard to strengthen relations between the two countries. He also expressed gratitude for Pakistan's sustained rejection of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. on Cuba, as well as the solidarity of that nation after the passage of hurricanes through the island and the expressions of respect and sorrow expressed after the decease of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
The Pakistani president expressed his people's gratitude for the assistance offered by Cuba after the devastating earthquake of October 2005, as well as for the graduation from Cuban medical universities of more than nine hundred young people from his country, who today contribute to the health and well-being of millions of their fellow citizens.
In addition, both parties agreed on the need to give new impetus to bilateral ties, with emphasis on cooperation in public health, biotechnology, trade and cultural exchanges.
On June 7, the new ambassadors of Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Bulgaria and Argentina also presented their respective credentials. The official ceremony took place at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the official residence of the Pakistani president in the city of Islamabad.
