New Cuban scholarships granted to Barbadian nationals for the Government of Cuba

- Current Requirements for Undergraduates Courses
Foreign students benefitting from a Cuban study scholarship should be:
- Between 16 and 25 years old.
- A secondary school or college graduate.
- Coming from a low income family who cannot afford to study in his/her own country.
Students must submit the following documents to the Ministry of Education, Technology and Vocational Training of Barbados before May 31, 2024
- An official copy of the Secondary School or College Graduation Certificate and Certificate of Grades.
- An original copy of the Student Academic Report of the Final year of Secondary School, in addition to official copies of CXC/CAPE certificates, OR the College Transcript (where applicable).
- An original copy of general Health Certificate, including HIV status as well as an official medical certificate showing that the applicant is not pregnant (in the case of females).
- An original copy of Police Certificate of Character, proving there is no criminal record.
- An original copy of student´s Birth Certificate.
- Ten (10) passport size photos.
- Current Requirements for Postgraduates Courses:

Students must submit the following documents to the Ministry of Education, Technology and Vocational Training of Barbados before May 31, 2024
- An official copy of Bachelor Degree Certificate and Certificate of Grades.
- An original copy of general Health Certificate, including HIV status as well as an official medical certificate showing that the applicant is not pregnant (in the case of females).
- An original copy of Police Certificate of Character, proving there is no criminal record.
- An original copy of student´s Birth Certificate and a copy translated into Spanish.
- Ten (10) passport size photos.
After gathering all of the above documents, the student must bring them to the Cuban Embassy. After being authenticated by the Embassy they will then receive, additionally:
- The Scholarship Certification Form (Career Ballot), which includes commitment on the payment of return ticket in case of withdrawal for whatever reason before finishing the course of study.
- Code of Ethics document, to be signed by the student.
3. Authentication Process
Upon submitting the above documents to the Cuban Embassy in Barbados, the documents should undergo the following legalization process, which will be thoroughly reviewed by the Cuban Embassy.
- Before submission to the Cuban Embassy, ALL documents must be duly authenticated by the ministries of Health, Education and Justice, as appropriate, as follows,
- The Secondary School/College Graduation Certificate, by the Ministry of Education.
- The Student Academic Report of their Final year of the Secondary School in addition to official copies of CXC/CAPE certificates OR their College Transcript, by the Ministry of Education.
- The Health Certificate, by the Ministry of Health.
- The Police Certificate of Character, by Ministry of Home Affairs.
- The Birth´s Certificate, by Ministry of Home Affairs.
- All these documents must ALSO be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- ALL these documents MUST be officially translated into Spanish before their authentication by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Cuban Embassy. (Resolution No. 5/2011, Appendix 2, Article 13, Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
- ALL authenticated documents, including their official translations, will THEN be legalized by the Cuban Embassy, exempt from payment.
- The student will have to travel with his/her documentation and upon arrival in Cuba he/she will deliver it to his/her Study Centre.
- Prohibition to make program changes.
- The program changes will not be allowed, according to the rules established in the Regulations for Foreign Fellows. Only in very exceptional cases, duly evaluated (Resolution 26/2012 of the Ministry of High Level Education) will this be considered.
- The students, as well as the Head of the Cuban Mission, must sign the original and copy of the Career Ballot. The Career Ballot is a document that will be issued by the Cuban Embassy stating the student’s program title and scholarship received.
- Upon arrival to Cuba, the students will deliver the original copy of the Career Ballot to the Official responsible for receiving them in Cuba; the copy will accompany the remaining documents of the student's file, duly stamped, and delivered by them to the Teaching Secretariat of the Study Centre.
5. Information for Scholarship Holders.
Students should familiarize themselves with all available information on the rules and regulation governing their study in Cuba.
- Students should read the Code of Ethics and sign it as evidence that they know the content and must abide by its regulations.
- The students will be given a copy of the Regulations for Foreign Students at the Higher Education Centers in Cuba (Resolution 26/2012) of the Ministry of Higher Education and a copy of the Customs Regulations.
6. Arrival of Selected Students.
- Students must arrive in Cuba 10 days before the course start date in September 2, 2024. The specific day will be announced in the coming weeks.
- The route, time of departure and arrival in Cuba, as well as the name of the airline must be delivered 15 days in advance of arrival.
7. Visa granted to Foreign Scholarship Holders.
- The Visa granted by the Cuban Embassy is D-2 type, which is exempt from payment. This entry permit is authorized by the Collaboration Directorate, once the nominal relation of the students is received.
