Kingston, August 27, 2024. As part of the bilateral cooperation agreement in the field of education, 28 new Cuban teachers arrived in Jamaica and will join schools starting next September.
The intensive preparation for their teaching duties began with a professional orientation program in the parish of Saint Ann, which was opened by the Honorable Marsha Smith, Minister of State, Ministry of Education and Youth; Cuban Ambassador Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, as well as other officials of the Ministry and the Cuban Embassy.
In her speech, the Minister thanked Cuba for its invaluable support in the sustainability of the education system and highlighted the relevance of this program, which for 27 consecutive years has allowed more than 500 Cuban teachers to collaborate in the training of Jamaican students, mainly in science and Spanish language subjects.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador recalled the origins of the educational collaboration with Jamaica as a legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz to the training of human resources of the sister nations of the Caribbean, and reaffirmed Cuba's firm commitment to the continuity of this agreement despite the harsh conditions imposed by the criminal blockade of the United States government for more than 60 years.
