Oslo, August 29, 2024. The Department of Sociology of the University of Havana (UH) and the Department of Social Studies of the University of Stavanger (UiS) began in 2020 the international collaboration project "Well-being in Cuba and Norway. Strengthening professional training on social policies and well-being from an intercultural perspective". To date, several groups of postgraduate students have benefited from it.
Recently, the University of Stavanger has welcomed a new group of Cuban professors and researchers, who will carry out a training stay that contributes to their Master's and Doctoral studies. They are postgraduate students from the UH´s Sociology Department, who also represent several Cuban institutions in the academic, scientific and cultural fields: the Center for Demographic Studies (CEDEM, of the University of Havana), the Casa de las Américas and the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana.
The seven students will attend the fall semester at the UiS, linked to courses on topics related to the gender perspective, social equality and well-being, intercultural practices and the importance of ethics for the practice of social work. Master's students Amanda Sánchez Vega, Amanda de las Mercedes Rodríguez Gómez, Magalys Mulens Garrido, Elisnosvelia Viltres González, Luis Carlos Espinosa Núñez de Villavicencio; as well as doctoral students María Ofelia Rodríguez Soriano and Dianne Griñán Bergara benefit from a scholarship that fulfills one of the objectives of the project: the strengthening of professional skills.
