St. Ann, 25 August 2025. The 16 new members of the Educational Brigade in Jamaica began the Orientation Programme prior to joining the 2025-2026 academic year. The opening session was attended by the Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, and officials from the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information of Jamaica.
The Jamaican authorities recognised the work developed by Cuban collaborators in schools of different levels of education throughout Jamaica, as well as their impact on students. He highlighted the scholarship programme and the construction of educational centres for the training of new generations of Jamaicans and the start of the Bilateral Education Programme in 1997 under the indisputable guidance of Fidel as examples of the brotherhood between the two nations.
The Cuban diplomat reaffirmed ‘the commitment of the Cuban people and government to maintain and continue expanding cooperation, despite the complex situation facing our country as a result of the cruel and criminal blockade and the island's continued inclusion on the illegal list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, with which US imperialism seeks to destroy the work done and the most genuine dreams of social justice of an entire people’.
The new Cuban teachers will join public schools in different regions of Jamaica and add to the contingent that has been on the island for 28 years.
