New officials of the Bahamian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dialogued with the Cuban Ambassador about the good state of bilateral relations

Nassau, 22 August 2019. In a cordial and respectful environment, a meeting of the Cuban Ambassador, Ismara M. Vargas Walter and new officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of this Caribbean nation took place a few days ago in The Bahamas. The meeting was part of the training program developed by the aforesaid Ministry. The diplomat highlighted the historical links, as well as the achievements made in 45 years of diplomatic relations between Cuba and The Bahamas, officially initiated on 30 November 1974. She referred, in particular, to the historical support extended by The Bahamas to Cuba in its struggle for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the government of the United States of America.

 

During the exchange, participants paid special attention to the breadth of bilateral cooperation, which includes the areas of education, health, music, visual arts, national security, agriculture, tourism. On the other hand, the progress made in trade was also mentioned. Besides, interest was shown on the scholarship program that Cuba offers which has benefited around 70 Bahamian students.
