New Pakistani scholarship beneficiaries ready to leave for Cuba

Islamabad, August 18th ._After the review process of their academic records and the granting of their respective visas, the three young Pakistanis who were awarded university scholarships to study medicine at the prestigious Latin American School of Medicine are now ready to leave for Cuba.

Ali Murrad, Ali Ahmad, and Muhammad Irfan, who come from rural areas of Punjab province, will join six other students from their country on the island, in what constitutes the continuation of the program to train young doctors for Pakistan, conceived by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro in 2006, through which around a thousand new Pakistani doctors have already graduated from Cuban universities.

During a visit to the Cuban embassy in Islamabad, where the students received their files and assignment slips, the head of the diplomatic mission highlighted the comprehensive, high-level training and strong humanistic spirit that characterize the medical profession in his country. He recalled that this hallmark is reflected in the recognition that ELAM graduates enjoy in Pakistan, who proudly identify themselves as “Cuban doctors.” He also invited them to make the most of their academic stage and to discover for themselves the reality of Cuba, convinced that they will find a nation that, even in the midst of economic limitations, upholds solidarity as a fundamental principle.
