The Director-General of the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON), Zainab Hawa Bangura, received today the credentials of H.E. Inés Fors Fernández, new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cuba to the Office.
Bangura congratulated the Cuban Ambassador for her new position and offered her full cooperation of the UNON in the fulfilment of her responsibilities.
Both parties agreed on the importance of multilateralism to solve the great challenges facing humanity. The activism and the role played by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) were also highly appreciated.
The Cuban ambassador expressed her gratitude for the support of both multilateral organizations in the fair struggle of the Cuban people and government to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the island for over 60 years.
Prior to her appointment, Ambassador Fors Fernández was the Director of Bilateral Affairs at the United States Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2023 to 2025. She also served as her country’s Ambassador to the Republic of Gambia and to Jamaica.
UNON, is the only UN Headquarter office in the Global South and the largest UN compound in the world at 140 acres.
