New Zealand Film Festival Arrives in Havana

Nearly a dozen of full-length films and eight short films from New Zealand complete the selection of the First Festival dedicated to the cinematography of the southern country in Havana, confirmed today the organizers of this festival.

From May 31 to June 4, the rooms of the Infanta Cinema, located in city centre of Havana, will host the exhibition of the selected productions, with the objective to show a new light on the production of the contemporary history of New Zealand, as well as on its current social and cultural framework.

With the consent of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic), New Zealand films such as MahanaThe Dead LandsThe Dark HorseBorn to DanceHip Hop-erationBoyWhale Rider and The Ground We WonWhite Lies will be screened.

The program will also include two talks on June 2 and 3, with viewers having the opportunity to exchange ideas with the filmmakers of The Ground We Won (El terreno ganado), Christopher Pryor y Miriam Smith; and con Dana Rotberg, director of the film White Lies (Mentiras blancas), respectively.

In addition to Cuba, countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Mexico have united for the first time in organizing the so-called New Zealand Film Festival in Latin America, which will run between May and September this year.
