Gothenburg, December 7, 2024 – At the headquarters of the weekly newspaper Proletaren, the Ambassador of Cuba, Alba Soto, was interviewed by Marcus Jönsson, editor of the media outlet.
The interview was part of a program that extended throughout the afternoon, featuring other speakers and interviewees addressing various current topics of interest. These included solidarity with the Cuban people and the defense of the Palestinian cause. Activists, Cuba supporters, and other attendees gathered for the event, where the importance of alternative media, particularly Proletaren, as reliable sources of information, was highlighted.
The Cuban diplomat discussed the complex situation faced by the Caribbean Island due to the tightening of the blockade, Cuba's inclusion in the LEPT, and the occurrence of natural disasters that have impacted the population and economy. She also emphasized the overwhelming support received by Cuba in the recent vote on its resolution against the blockade at the United Nations General Assembly.
In her remarks, she underscored the Cuban people's determination to resist adversities and continue building their social project by a sovereign and majority decision, without allowing external interference.
The Cuban diplomat expressed gratitude for the moral and material solidarity received by the Cuban people. This solidarity has taken concrete forms in recent months, including the donation of funds to address the damage caused by two hurricanes and the cruel blockade that has afflicted the country for more than 60 years. She also mentioned the "Solidarity Suitcases" initiative, which has successfully delivered over 20 suitcases filled with medical supplies to Cuban hospitals this year.
