Abuja, May 26th 2026.- Nigerian graduates from Cuban universities joined the international “I Sign for Cuba” campaign, reaffirming their solidarity with the Cuban people and highlighting the deep human, cultural, and academic bonds they built during their years of study on the island.
The initiative, internationally promoted by the Central Workers’ Union of Cuba (CTC), the International Workers’ Institute, and the Regional Office of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU/FSM), seeks to multiply voices of support for Cuba in the face of the United States economic, commercial, and financial blockade.
During the signing event held in Abuja, the graduates emotionally recalled their time in Cuba, describing the country as “a second home” because of the affection, solidarity, and hospitality they received throughout their years of study. Many emphasized that their experience in Cuba not only provided them with high-quality professional education, but also helped them develop strong values of humanism, cooperation, and social commitment.
Participants agreed that the Cuban people have always opened their doors to young Africans and students from other parts of the world, even amid severe economic difficulties caused by the blockade. In this regard, they stated that joining the “I Sign for Cuba” campaign is also a gesture of gratitude toward a nation that has historically contributed to the education and training of thousands of African professionals.
They also denounced the impact of the sanctions and unilateral coercive measures imposed against Cuba, stressing that such policies directly affect the daily lives of the Cuban people and hinder the country’s economic and social development.
The graduates called on students, youth organizations, social movements, and friends of Cuba across Nigeria and Africa to support the campaign and continue strengthening international solidarity with the island.
The international campaign invites supporters to sign digitally through the platform www.firmoporcuba.com and to share messages of support using the hashtag #CubaIsNotAlone.
“Cuba educated us, welcomed us, and taught us the value of solidarity. Today we sign for Cuba because we feel it is also our home,” one of the participants stated during the activity.
