Nigeria, August 07, 2022.- Since the accident at the super-tanker base in Matanzas, the Cuban Embassy in Nigeria has received numerous expressions of solidarity and support from groups of friends, graduates in Cuba, the diplomatic corps, in general.
National coordinator of the Nigerian movement of solidarity with Cuba, Comrade Abiodun Aremu, on behalf of the Movement, transmitted the following message:
THE NIGERIA MOVEMENT OF SOLIDARITY SYMPATHIZES WITH CUBA OVER THE FIRE EXPLOSIONS IN MATANZAS!
- With deep sense of feelings, we in the Nigeria Movement of Solidarity with Cuba express our heartfelt sympathy to the Cuban population in MATANZAS over the fire incident which occurred since the night of August 5 Cuban time (early morning of August 6 Nigerian time)!
- Reports from the information available to us from the Cuban Embassy in Nigeria indicated that on the night of August 5, fire broke out in the crude oil storage tank 52 at the Matanzas Supertanker Base due to the impact of lightning, and followed by four explosions in the second tank with more than 120 people injured and receiving medical attention at the City Medical centre!, as well in hospital of Havana capital city; nearly 20 missing people are being searched for and one body has been recovered.
- We salute the sense of duty, emergency promptness, medical treatment and care for the victims of the injured and the sacrifices of the Cuban medical students in the University in Matanzas, fire fighters, the social workers, the medical personnel in the City Hospital, the Cuban military, and volunteers from the Committee for the Defence of the Revolution (CDR), etc, in the evacuation to safety of the children and the population in the immediate neighbouring communities of the explosions.
- We commend the Government of Mexico, being the first to send experts, including 60 members of the Mexican Armed Forces and 16 PEMEX technicians with experience in dealing with this type of disaster and also helicopters and other materials to help to control the fire.
- Also, special commendation to the leadership of the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela for their commitment to permanent solidarity internationalism with Cuba by their dispatch of their support and emergency services of about 35 highly trained specialists and technicians, which landed in Matanzas Cuba within few hours of the fire incident to join forces with Cuba in battling the fire!
- Matanzas Province in Cuba has a heavy population of African descendants, especially with the large presence of the Egun, Igala, Urhobo, Yoruba, Hausa, and other ethnic groups from the Southern part of Nigeria, hence we urge all of the African people worldwide and the rest of Humanity to express their solidarity with Cuba, not only at this moment, but including her resistance to END the US Criminal Economic Blockade against Cuba!
- And to all the governments in the African Unity (AU), this is the time to REDEEM the responsibilities of the AFRICAN PEOPLE to CUBA! The Cuban Revolution was decisive to Africa at every period from decolonization to independence and liberation of most of the African countries, to education, medical and technical support services – Scholarship to African students, Defeat of EBOLA, COVID-19 and still continuing! And to the popular organisations and movements in the Pan-African world, we have a DUTY to ensure that Governments in the AU should be reminded of its obligation to CUBA!
- CUBA maintains her DUTY to AFRICA in the following words of Commandant FIDEL: … Those who once enslaved Human and sent them to the Americas perhaps never imagined that one of those peoples who received the slaves would one day send their fighters to struggle for freedom in Africa! Ànd to the African Movements of Solidarity with Cuba, here lies the Challenge of AFRICA!
EVER ONWARD TO THE CUBAN REVOLUTION & SOCIALISM!!
