Abuja, May 23th 2026.- Members of the Nigerian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba joined the signing of the international “I Sign for Cuba” campaign, a global initiative aimed at strengthening expressions of support for the Cuban people in the face of the United States economic, commercial and financial blockade and the continued aggressions against the island.
The campaign, announced during the International Solidarity Conference held in Havana on May 2, is co-organized by the Central Workers’ Union of Cuba (CTC), the International Workers’ Institute, and the Regional Office of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU/FSM).
During the gathering held in Abuja, representatives of solidarity organizations, social activists, Nigerian graduates from Cuban universities, and friends of the Cuban Revolution reaffirmed their commitment to defending the sovereignty and dignity of the Cuban people. Participants highlighted Cuba’s historic resistance against decades of unilateral coercive measures and denounced the humanitarian impact of the blockade on the daily lives of ordinary Cubans.
Those in attendance agreed that the “I Sign for Cuba” campaign represents an important platform to amplify international solidarity and to raise global awareness against hostile policies targeting Cuba. They also emphasized the need to continue promoting solidarity initiatives within trade unions, universities, social movements, and community spaces across Nigeria and the African continent.
As part of the initiative, participants gathered at the Embassy headquarters to sign the petition and urged all people of goodwill, trade unions, youth movements, students, and members of civil society to join this international action.
The campaign also encourages supporters to share messages, testimonies, and audiovisual materials on social media using the hashtag #CubaIsNotAlone, #CubaNoEstáSola reaffirming that Cuba continues to count on the support and solidarity of millions of people around the world.
Organizers reiterated that every signature represents a voice in defense of justice, international cooperation, and the right of peoples to freely determine their own future without external interference.
