Message from Greek publishing House Diethnes Vima (International Foro)
The publishing house Diethnes Vima would like to join with the thousands of people through-out Europe who are calling for an end to the US economic, commercial, trade and financial embargo on Cuba.
For six decades now every administration in Washington has maintained this economic war on the people of Cuba. The Republican administration of former President Trump further strengthened the embargo measures against Cuba in an attempt to strangulate it. The current Democratic administration of Biden has indicated that it is not planning on any changes to those policies any time soon – if ever.
The European Union, which defends the interests of European capitalists, the dominant ones being those of Germany and France, has by and large respected and helped enforce the embargo measures imposed by the Washington. So, in effect it has played a complicit role.
The crime of Cuba is that its working people carried-out a revolutionary struggle that overthrew the US-backed dictatorship of Batista and opened the door to the socialist revolution in the Americas. The crime of Cuba is that its working people took power from the capitalist ruling rich, reorganized society so that its resources meet the needs of the great majority – the toilers, and gave selfless internationalist assistance to people around the world. Revolutionary Cuba’s record in battling the COVID -19 pandemic is another example of the gains of that revolution.
Through the Cuban revolution we see how millions of ordinary people can change the course of history, becoming different human beings in the process. The greatest threat that the Cuban revolution presents to the ruling rich is the power of its example.
The aim of the embargo against Cuba is nothing less than the overthrow of the socialist revolution and the return to the dog-eat-dog system of exploitation that exists in other parts of the Americas and the world.
We encourage all friends of Diethnes Vima to participate in protests against the US imposed embargo which is being organized in the next period throughout Europe (#UnblockCuba). We also encourage our friends to sign and circulate the petition against the embargo initiated by the Jose Marti Cultural Association – Solidarity with Cuba, which thousands of people already signed.
