Non-Aligned Movement demands end to the blockade against Cuba and condemns new US sanctions

Vientiane, February 4, 2026. SPECIAL STATEMENT FROM THE NON-ALIGNED MOVEMENT ON NEW MEASURES AIMED AT INTENSIFYING THE EMBARGO AGAINST CUBA.

The Non-Aligned Movement expresses its deep concern regarding the recent announcement by the United States Government of new extreme measures aimed at further intensifying the economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed against the Republic of Cuba. These measures include actions designed to obstruct fuel supplies to the country and to sanction third-party states that maintain legitimate trade relations with Cuba.

These measures have extraterritorial effects and negatively impact not only Cuba and its people, but also third-party states and international economic relations. They constitute a flagrant violation of the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, international law, the multilateral trading system, and the norms and principles governing friendly relations among states.

The Movement reiterates its call to the Government of the United States of America to end the economic, commercial, and financial embargo against Cuba, which constitutes the principal obstacle to its full development, and to eliminate the additional unilateral measures imposed since 2017, including the unilateral and arbitrary designation of Cuba as a State Sponsor of Terrorism, which reinforce the embargo and cause enormous material losses and economic damage to the Cuban people.

The Non-Aligned Movement reaffirms its solidarity with the people and Government of the Republic of Cuba and urges the international community to uphold international law, multilateralism, and the purposes and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
