Nordic Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba held in Oslo, Norway

Oslo, March 19, 2023. Members of the Associations of Friendship with Cuba in Norway, Sweden and Denmark met this weekend in Oslo to take part in a new edition of the Nordic Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba. Also present were representatives of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO), the Communist Party of Norway and the Association of Etio-Cubans living in this country.

The event counted with the active participation of a delegation from the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), made up of Rigoberto Zarza Ross, director of Europe, and Elizabeth Ribalta Rubiera, desk officer of the Group for Northern Europe, who came to Norway especially for the occasion.

After the opening speech, which was given by Berit Moen, acting president of the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association, the participants listened attentively to a video message by Fernando González Llort, president of ICAP. They also listened to the words of greeting delivered by the Cuban Ambassador to Norway, Maité Rivero Torres.

The presentations made by Marit Halse on the relations of cooperation existing between the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions in Oslo (LO i Oslo) and the Provincial Committee in Havana of the Central Workers´ Union of Cuba (CTC), as well as by Arne Husum and Annabel Hamre on the program of courses in Cuba for nursing students from Norwegian universities were of great interest.

The meeting offered the opportunity to review the work of solidarity with Cuba carried out in recent years in the Nordic region, as well as to exchange ideas in order to strengthen the actions of the Associations in their respective countries and achieve greater coordination among them.

During the working sessions, topics such as the impact of the criminal U.S. blockade, the unjust inclusion of Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, and the importance of the communicational work and the activism in the digital platforms were discussed. The participants also exchanged on events and activities that will take place in the coming months on the European continent and on the international brigades that are being organized by ICAP for this year 2023.

As a result of the discussions, a Final Declaration and an Action Plan were approved (Embassy of Cuba in Norway).
