Nordic Solidarity Event with Cuba opens in Copenhagen

Copenhagen, October 4, 2025. The Nordic Meeting in Solidarity with Cuba kicked off with the participation of 30 representatives of solidarity organizations from nine Northern European countries. It will run until the 5th in the Danish capital. The meeting brings together presidents, vice presidents, and board members of friends of Cuba committees in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland. Representatives from the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Germany are also taking part.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Cuban ambassador to Denmark, Ana María Chongo Torreblanca, and Elizabeth Ribalta Rubiera, official from the European Division of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP). The opening remarks were given by Susanne Wind, president of the Danish-Cuban Association.

In her speech, the Ambassador conveyed the profound gratitude of the Cuban people and government for the sustained political and material support of the solidarity movement. She also referred to the impact of the hostile measures imposed by the United States for more than six decades, making special mention of the Lester Mallory Memorandum, a document that, since the beginning of the Revolution, outlined the intention to "provoke hunger and desperation among the people" in order to overthrow the government.

The diplomat also strongly condemned Cuba's inclusion on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, describing it as an "arbitrary act" with severe impacts on the population. "Cuba is not a state sponsor of terrorism, but rather a state sponsor of health and cooperation," she emphatically stated.

The event's agenda continued with the screening of a message sent especially for the occasion by the Hero of the Republic of Cuba and President of ICAP, Fernando González Llort, addressed to the participants.

Inmediately after, Elizabeth Ribalta Rubiera took the floor. She urged those present to focus their efforts on the priorities of the solidarity work: political and legal support, promoting solidarity cooperation and travel to the island, and the crucial media battle to counter disinformation campaigns against Cuba.

To close the inaugural session, a message of gratitude sent by Palestinian students studying in Cuba to their European friends was screened, acknowledging their support for the Palestinian cause.

The rest of the day was devoted to the work of the Cuba solidarity movement in the region. All national organizations had the opportunity to present their achievements, strategies, and experiences. Paulius Eidukas spoke on behalf of the Norwegian-Cuba Association -Cubaforeningen i Norge-. (Embacuba Norway)
