Kingston, 3 June 2025. Students and lecturers from the Department of Humanities at the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Behavioural Sciences at Northern Caribbean University, based in Mandeville, visited the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica. The activity was part of the Spanish language immersion exercise they are undertaking as part of their academic curriculum.
During the exchange with the mission's diplomats and the Coordinator of the Educational Brigade, the students learned about distinctive elements of Cuban history and culture, as well as the actions our country is taking to preserve and disseminate the African-Caribbean legacy.
The students showed great interest in learning about the particularities of the Cuban education system and the attention given to special schools. On this subject, Niurka Cueto Rodríguez, coordinator of the Department and a Cuban resident in Jamaica, catalogued Cuba's education as one of the best in the world, based on the opportunities offered to students at different levels of education and the preparation of the teaching staff. She also acknowledged the resources allocated annually by the Cuban State, despite the limitations imposed by the genocidal policy of the blockade and our country's permanence on the spurious and unilateral list of state sponsors of terrorism.
