Oslo, 3 de mayo de 2024. The International Meeting in Solidarity with Cuba and against Imperialism, took place at the Havana Convention Center, on May 2nd.
Ingrid M. Schanche, leader of "Norway For Peace"; Ahmed S. Al-Saedi, member of the International Committee of the Red Party, and Paulius Eidukas, member of the Communist Party of Norway and the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association, were among the 1,144 delegates from 58 countries and 220 organizations, that attended the event, representing trade union centers, solidarity movements, and political parties.
The program of the meeting included work in three commissions that addressed global unionism and workers' struggles; the just causes of the people, and the struggles of solidarity organizations in defense of peace and the sovereignty of the people.
The event was dedicated to the centenary of the death of the leader of the world proletariat Vladimir Ilich Lenin, the legacy of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and other heroes.
The closing ceremony was presided over by the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel. In his speech, he thanked the international support for the Cuban cause and affirmed that his country will continue the path set since January 1, 1959.
In this sense, he highlighted the importance of promoting the support movement and visits by activists, union members, representatives of organizations and supportive people so that they know the reality of the country and the struggles of its people.
Díaz-Canel assured that although the island faces several challenges, the Cuban people continue their commitment to the fight for equality and peace, inspired by the leaders of the Revolution, Fidel Castro and Raúl Castro.
The event was preceded by the participation of the delegates at the main rally held in Havana on May Day to celebrate the International Workers´ Day, when an estimated 200,000 people crowded into the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribune. (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
