Oslo, October 14, 2024. The denunciation of the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba and the unfair and unfounded presence of the Island on the List of States that allegedly sponsor terrorism, was a fundamental component of the event organized in this city by the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association to pay tribute to Ernesto Che Guevara.
Addressing those present, the Cuban Ambassador, Maité Rivero Torres, pointed out that the blockade that the United States has imposed against Cuba for more than six decades seeks to cause the collapse of the economy and generate a situation of political and social instability. She also stated that the damage caused by that policy to Cuba's economic, commercial and financial relations is visible and indisputable, as well as its impact on the living conditions of the Cuban population.
The diplomat highlighted how the impact of the blockade has been reinforced in recent years with the unjustified inclusion of Cuba in the State Department's unilateral and arbitrary list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, as it automatically implies additional coercive measures that further tighten the restrictions and prohibitions already applied against the country by virtue of the blockade and that have a very damaging effect on the economy.
She concluded her statement by saying that although Cuba is prepared to continue facing the blockade, it will not cease in its denunciation, because present and future generations of Cubans have the right to live and develop in a Cuba without a blockade.
Surrounding the Ambassador and raising a giant banner that, next to the imposing image of Che Guevara, demanded the lifting of the US blockade, those present at the event demonstrated their unwavering solidarity with Cuba in this important battle. (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
