In Norway, they condemn the blockade against Cuba

Oslo, October 27, 2022. The political-cultural event held for paying tribute to Ernesto Che Guevara on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of his fall in combat, was a propitious occasion to once again denounce the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for six decades.

In her speech, the Cuban ambassador, Maité Rivero Torres, said that since 2019, the blockade has escalated to a more harmful and inhumane dimension. “In the context of the current multidimensional global crisis, which includes an international economic crisis with an imminent threat of global recession, a food crisis, an energy crisis, a health crisis, among others, Cuba has had to face, additionally, the unprecedented tightening of the blockade with very aggressive measures that were adopted by the Donald Trump government and which, for the most part, are still in force as a continuation of the US policy of maximum pressure against our country,” she said.

The Cuban diplomat stated that the blockade constitutes a massive, flagrant and systematic violation of the human rights of Cuban men and women; it represents the most unjust, severe and prolonged system of unilateral coercive measures that has been applied against any country, and continues to be the main obstacle to the country's economic development.

“Cuba will not give up its battle for the lifting of the blockade. On November 2 and 3, the United Nations General Assembly will consider, for the thirtieth time, the draft resolution that establishes the need to put an end to it. This resolution has historically received the almost unanimous support of the international community, which shows that Cuba is not alone and that the United States, on the contrary, is isolated in the application of this genocidal policy”, the Ambassador affirmed.

Erlín Rondón Cedeño, general secretary of the National Union of Communications, Information Technology and Electronics Workers (SNTCIE), also took the floor for giving thanks to the Friendship Association and its members for their permanent support and solidarity towards the Cuban Revolution.

On behalf of the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association, Berit Moen, acting president, and Ane Hoel and Mayo Bustos, member of the Board, condemned the unjust blockade against Cuba, which affects the well-being of the people and reaches and harms each Cuban family.

The activity was attended by members of the Friendship Association, the Bolivarian circles, the Norwegian Communist Party and trade union organizations; diplomats from the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela; Cuban residents, and other friends of Cuba in Norway. (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
