Norwegian professors participate in the 10th International Colloquium on Cultural Diversity in the Caribbean, at Casa de las Américas

Oslo, May 26, 2025. A group of Norwegian professors from the University of South-Eastern Norway in Bø participated in the 10th International Colloquium on Cultural Diversity in the Caribbean, that took place in Casa de las Américas, in Havana, from May 19 to 23.

Stephen Walton was one of the keynote speakers in the panel “Intervening in the archive, inventing possible archives: “Neo-archives” in Literature and Art”, while Hans Jacob Ohldieck and Kjetil Klette Bøhler made their presentations in the panels “Transperipheral mediation between the Caribbean and Cultures/Regions beyond its Borders” and “Musical archives, sound traces,” respectively.

Under the premise of decolonizing the Caribbean through archives, the core of the discussion revolved around the importance of archives in the regional intellectual landscape and their impact on cultural endeavors. In addition to panel discussions like those mentioned above, the program featured lectures, film screenings, and book launches.

The Norwegian professors' presence in such an interesting event took place within the framework of the project of cooperation "Ecological Connections: Cultural Studies in Cuba and Norway" between the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) and the University of Havana. (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
