The President of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Akanni Mcdowall, the First Vice President, Joy-Ann Inniss, and Treasurer Secretary, Asokore Beckles, received at its headquarters to the high-level delegation of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the (ICAP) who visited Barbados between 26 and 30 May 2016 composed by his First Vice President Elio Gamez and the director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Robert Hamilton, accompanied by Cuban Ambassador Francisco Fernández. This fraternal meeting served to return the visit made first by members of NUPW´s board to the ICAP´s headquarters during his recent trip to Cuba to participate in t May Day celebrations, invited by the Workers' Central Union of Cuba. The occasion was propitious for both parties to ratify the bonds of friendship between the respective organizations.
As part of the priorities of the solidarity work of ICAP, its First Vice President highlighted the main events to be held in the second half of the year, first the eighth Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba to be held in late July in Santo Domingo, Republic Dominican, and invited the NUPW and various Barbadian political and social organizations.
Commemoration with a group of activities in Bridgetown of the 40th anniversary of the terrorist sabotage against the Cubana airplane on the Barbadian territory in October 1976 was also highlighted as well as the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Barbados´ Independence in Havana.
