Official celebration with solidarity organizations and trade unions

The activities for Saturday were concluded with an official celebration, where all of the solidarity organizations were joined by the broader left-wing political and trade union movements in Denmark.

Each of the international delegations were introduced by our hosts Susanne Wind and conferenciers Jena and Sven-Erik, as well as Danish activists, trade union organizers and political leaders. Our venue for the evening was provided by 3F - the largest and strongest trade union in Denmark, uniting more than 250 000 workers!

Keynote speech was given by Elizabeth Ribalta Rubiera of ICAP, and her emphasis on the primary mission of ICAP, which is defence of the just causes of the peoples, were met with cheers and ovations from the crowd, who spontaneously began chanting "Viva Cuba!"

Another speech was given by Rob Miller of the British Cuba Solidarity Campaign, and in it he recalled the long and difficult process of working within British trade unions. As Rob noted, 20 years ago, only 3 branches of trade unions were affiliated with CSC, with most other dismissing them as propagandists "for an authoritarian regime". After decades of hard work, these right-wing lies were gradually dispelled, and now CSC enjoys broad support from more than 500 branches, access to more than a million workers through trade union media, as well as close and fruitful cooperation and solidarity between the trade union movement in Britain and in Cuba. His words were a big encouragement and a source for optimism for all of us, who have had to deal with conservative trade unions as well.

Finally, we were treated to Cuban music by the band Patria Grande, as everyone sang the iconic Guantanamera and El Pueblo Unido.
