Georgetown, May 19, 2022. Officials of the Cuban Embassy in Guyana pay tribute to José Martí for the 127th anniversary of his fall in combat at Dos Rios, a floral offering was placed in front of his bust and the Ambassador, Narciso Reinaldo Amador Socorro in his words expressed:
One hundred twenty-seven years after José Martí fell in combat, the Cuban nation faces the same imperial challenge and upholds the flags of independence and sovereignty in the midst of a cruel blockade that has remained intact for more than sixty years. Generations of Cubans have practically lived on the warpath, first to rescue the republic that was taken from us with the military intervention in 1902 and sustained with the Platt Amendment and the repeated interventions, with the dictators in terms, and the American proconsuls who bossed around the misgovernments until 1959, and during the years of the Revolution have consistently tried to destroy the independence won.
In the tribute to Martí, we will always join the tribute to the sons of Cuba who have given their best to hold the independence, and among themselves especially, Fidel, the most authentic of Martí's followers.
