Luxembourg, October 13, 2026. The Cuban ambassador to the Netherlands, accredited to Luxembourg, held talks with Ms. Nora Back, president of the Independent Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) of Luxembourg. This is the leading trade union in Luxembourg in terms of membership.
It is a union that brings together men and women from different economic sectors, in small or large companies, in the private or public sector, who live in any region of Luxembourg or beyond its borders.
The meeting addressed how the blockade imposed against Cuba systematically violates the fundamental principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, and the self-determination of peoples. In addition, the meeting addressed the harm the blockade causes to labor organizations in Cuba.
The Cuban ambassador explained in detail the profoundly harmful impact on the Cuban population resulting from the application and tightening of the blockade, which directly hinders access to essential medical supplies, food, technology, electricity, and the financial resources necessary for the country’s economic development and social well-being.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the ambassador to update her counterpart on the process of socioeconomic transformation currently underway in our country, driven by the Cuban government, to revive the national economy.
Interest was expressed in strengthening ties between the OGBL Union and the Cuban Workers’ Federation, in a context of particular complexity for working people in our country.
