Omara Durand crowned in Dubai, to the Cuba's pride

Dubai, February 27, 2023.- The multi-laureate Cuban athlete Omara Durand dominated the track, in the 200-meter test in the T12 category (deeply visually impaired), at the Dubai Club for People of Determination, venue of the World Grand Prix of Para-athletics, qualifying for the Paralympics in Paris 2024. The woman from Santiago, together with her guide Yuniol Kindelán, will also run the 400 meters, on Tuesday, February 28.

Cuban diplomats accredited in the United Arab Emirates attended the installation, to recognize the trajectory of the competitor, pride of the Cuban sports movement. The joy was complete when she reached the gold medal in the 200 meters, late Monday afternoon.

Nearly 700 para-athletes from 66 countries participate in the event. One of the main incentives will be to accumulate points for the world ranking, another way to access Paris 2024.
