Kingston, Jamaica, 11 January 2019. The State Mission of Cuba in Jamaica took a firm step towards the Constitutional Referendum that will be held here next month, with the Official Ceremony of presentation, swearing in and inauguration of the five members of the Special Electoral Constituency Commission (SECC) who will be in charge of the organization, coordination and supervision of the voting process in Jamaica.
In a simple, but emotive and solemn ceremony held today in the Meeting Room of the Embassy and chaired by Ambassador Inés Fors Fernández, Head of the State Mission, and by Dr. Héctor Aguilera Anzardo, Chief of the Working Group of the Communist Party of Cuba in Jamaica, it was announced that the aforementioned commission will be made up of Mr. Ricardo Calvo Águila (President), Mrs. María Marlenin Díaz Lozano (Secretary), Dr. José Armando Arronte Villamarín (Member), Mr. Santo Omar Varona Caballero (Member) and Mr. Ibrahín Ortega Oquendo (Member).
Subsequently, on behalf of the newly appointed electoral authorities, Mr. Ricardo Calvo Águila read the Oath and the five members of the SECC signed the Constitution and Swearing-in Act, before a group of Health and Education collaborators and workers of the Embassy.
At the end of the ceremony, the Head of Mission congratulated the electoral authorities who took office and wished them success in fulfilling their duties.
