The Embassy of Cuba and the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba in Ghana commemorated the 67th Anniversary of the Day of National Rebellion, which was held for the first time in Ghana in a non-personal manner, as establish the sanitary provisions for the confrontation with Covid-19 pandemic.
As a result of the use of Zoom and Facebook, part of the new information and communication technologies (ICTs), the Cuban Embassy became a transmission and reception center with simultaneous connection with 127 people, who represented the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, with special mention for the Association of Ghanaian Graduates in Cuba (ESBECAN), and the Ghanaian section of the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party (A-APRP); the Association of Cuban Residents in Ghana; the Cuban Medical Brigade. But, the commemoration went beyond the borders of Ghana, because friends of Cuba from countries such as: Mozambique, South Africa, Nigeria and Bolivia were also present.
The Ambassador of Cuba, Pedro Luis Despaigne González, who was in charge of the main words of the Online Forum, thanked the friends of Cuba for their support in making a celebration a reality using modern IT and Telecommunications technologies. In his message, he explained the legitimacy and necessity of the actions of 26th July, 1953, as well as their continuity in the Cuban Revolution, which today is led by a new generation that follows the founding principles of Moncada. In another part of his speech he made reference to Cuba's historical ties with Africa, and with Ghana in particular, and confirmed that even with a blockade and with the influence of Covid-19, the country will not renounce neither to internationalism and solidarity.
The participants in their messages sent through the channels allowed by the digital connection ratified their respect for the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro. They expressed their appreciation for the internationalist work of the Cuban Revolution, and highlighted how that spirit has remained in the current conditions of confrontation with Covid-19, with the presence of the "Henry Reeve" Contingent in 42 countries.
In the Final Declaration the participants explicitly condemned the criminal blockade suffered by the Cuban people for more than six decades and which has been irrationally intensified by the current American administration. They also expressed the will to continue with the Cuban people in the fight for the definitive lifting of this criminal and unpopular policy.
It was reaffirmed that international solidarity towards the social project that Cuba is building remains alive. (Cubaminrex / Embacuba Ghana)
