Wellington, September 17, 2024.- On September 27, Wellington was dressed up to host the opening ceremony of the 2024 Latin American Film Festival, an event that aims to celebrate and promote the cultural and cinematic richness of Latin America and Spain in the New Zealand capital. The opening ceremony was attended by the distinguished ambassadors of Latin American and Spain countries accredited in Wellington, as well as the city’s mayor, Tory Whanau, who emphasized the importance of this festival as a cultural bridge between New Zealand and Spanish-speaking countries.
The event kicked off with the screening of the acclaimed Spanish film "5 lobitos", directed by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, a deeply emotional work that has captivated both audiences and critics for its intimate portrayal of motherhood and family relationships.
After the film's screening, attendees were treated to an authentic gastronomic journey through Latin America and Spain. Each participating country offered a taste of its traditional cuisine and cocktails, allowing guests to indulge in unique flavors and traditional drinks from the region. From vibrant Peruvian ceviches and Argentine empanadas to iconic Mexican tacos and refreshing Cuban mojitos, the evening was a true celebration of Latin American cultural diversity and hospitality.
The Latin American Film Festival in Wellington will continue with a varied program of films that seek to bring the New Zealand audience closer to the realities, dreams, and stories of a continent that finds a powerful form of expression through cinema.
