The Ambassador of Cuba, Pedro Luis Despaigne González, attended the opening session of the Commemorative Program of the 30th anniversary of the arrival in Cuba of a group of young Ghanaians, who were sent by the government of their country to study.
The Cuban Ambassador stressed that those young people who came to Cuba in 1988 to study at the "Kwame Nkrumah" School of the Isle of Youth, are today professionals trained in various specialties. He reiterated that they have as a common element the love of the Antillean land where they were formed and which they consider their second homeland.
On behalf of the 88 Batch, the Dr. Francis Adu-Poku, pointed out that during the months of July and August, members of the Association of Ghanaians Trained in Cuba (ESBECAN) will also carry out socio-political activities in various places of Ghana.
Mr. Scott Uriah, who officiated as Master of Ceremonies in the activity developed at the Military Hospital of Accra, said that next year coinciding with the 60th anniversary of Cuba-Ghana relations, his promotion will develop a similar Program.
The afternoon also served for the members of ESBECAN to exchange anecdotes and to remember with nostalgia the years lived in Cuba. The First Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba, Julio César Sánchez, was also at the event.
