Islamabad, May 7, 2024 _ The prominent Pakistani political activist, Dr. Ammar Ali Jan, today shared an emotional message on his social networks after his week-long stay in our country as a participant in the 50th Anniversary Congress on the New International Economic Order. This event, jointly convened by the Progressive International and the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba, gathered in Havana numerous academics, diplomats and legislators from around the world for three days of intense debates.
In his message, the leader of the Pakistan Rights Party said, “It has been a week since I have been in Cuba, the land that dared to pursue revolutionary dreams in the belly of the beast. The 1959 Cuban Revolution overthrew the U.S.-backed Batista dictatorship under the leadership of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. In addition to initiating land reforms, the Cuban government built a program of universal literacy, free food and universal health care for its citizens. Internationally, it lent exemplary solidarity to Third World revolutions, from Angola to Namibia and Bolivia to Chile. One of Cuba's best friends on the international scene was Nelson Mandela, who always considered Fidel Castro fundamental in South Africa's struggle against apartheid. In Pakistan, Cuba helped us with hundreds of doctors after the 2005 earthquake, even though we did not even have a Cuban embassy in Pakistan. Cuba was also the first country to send doctors to Italy at the height of Covid, continuing its incredible tradition of global solidarity. Today it remains one of the strongest supporters of Palestinian resistance against Israel's genocidal maniacs. These achievements seem all the more remarkable when we realize that they have occurred in the context of the longest sanctions in modern history. The United States has stifled the Cuban economy, repeatedly attempted to provoke unrest in the country, and made multiple assassination attempts against Cuban leaders, particularly Fidel. Never have a people shown this level of determination and humanity in the midst of a crippling siege that causes extreme shortages and distortions in the economy.”
Deeply grateful for the opportunity to greet and convey to President Diaz-Canel the appreciation for Cuba's solidarity aid to Pakistan, Dr. Ammar Ali concluded his message by stating that "The Cuban Revolution is the most potent expression of this eternal will to resist in the midst of unspeakable imperialist aggression, an unconquerable determination to be free while being hounded by the enemies of freedom. We must thank the Cubans for teaching us what it means to live while facing the merchants of death. We must thank them for all the solidarity they give to people across the world despite limited resources and brutal sanctions. We must thank them for carrying the burden of our hopes and dreams for so many decades. And we must try to become Cuban, i.e., join the eternal fight of freeing our lands from imperialists and their local stooges". (EMBACUBA PAKISTAN)
