Parliament of Jamaica reiterates solidarity with Cuba and rejection to Blockade

KINGSTON, JAMAICA, November 21st, 2017.  The President of the Parliament of Jamaica, Pearnel Charles,  reiterated the unconditional support of the people of Jamaica to Cuba and the rejection to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United STates to Cuba during more than half a century.

During the courtesy visit the recently accredited Ambassador of Cuba in Jamaica,  Inés Fors Fernández, both parts dialogued on diverse issues of the bilateral agenda, in particular, the parliamentary relations between the two nations.

The leader of the Jamaican legislative body availed the opportunity to send a message of solidarity to the government and people of Cuba and ratified the willingness of the Parliament of Jamaica, representative of the people, and ratified the compromise of the Parliament to continue denouncing the policy of blockade against the sister nation. 

He also recalled his last visit to Cuba, accompanying the Prime Minister Andrew Holness, to participate at the funerals of the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz. 

The Cuban diplomat thanked the Parliament for the adoption of a motion against the blockade, approved last October 31st for nine consecutive ocassion. 

Ambassador Fors Fernández also stated the compromise to continue working to strengthen the relations between the Parliament and the National Assembly of People´s Power, moment during which  she availed to extend an invitation to Pearnel Charles to visit Cuba. 

Heather Cooke, Clerk to the Parliament and Senate was also present during the meeting.
