KINGSTON, JAMAICA, June 14, 21018.- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Rogelio Sierra Diaz, was welcomed at the venue of the Parliament of Jamaica by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Pearnel Charles, and the President of the Senate, Thomas Tavares Finson.
During the cordial meeting, carried out this Friday, 15th June, both Jamaican leaders ratified the solidarity of the Parliament, people and Government of Jamaica with Cuba, in particular, the battle to end the blockade the United States have imposed against Cuba during more than half a century.
Both legislators appealed to maintain the efforts to continue strengthening the relations between the parliaments. On this particular issue, the President of the Senate recalled his meeting with President of the National Assembly of Peoples´ Power, Esteban Lazo Hernández, during his last visit to Cuba to attend the ceremony of official inauguration of the equestrian statue of National Hero José Martí.
Both Pearnel Charles and Tavares Finson sent congratulations to Lazo Hernandez for his re-election as leader of Cuban legislative body.
Cuban Deputy Minister thanked for the statement of support by the two Jamaican politicians and highlighted the transcendence of the motions to reject the blockade adopted by the Parliament of Jamaica during nine consecutive years.
Sierra Diaz also reiterated the willingness of his Government to continue increasing the ties with the people, Parliament and Government of Jamaica, a nation that, together with Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Barbados, contributed to break the isolation of Cuba by establishing diplomatic relations in 1972.
Director for Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jorge Mayo Fernandez, and Cuban ambassador Inés Fors Fernández, attended the meeting as well.
