Kingston, Jamaica, 26 June 2019. Members of the Jamaica-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group attended a cordial meeting in this capital hosted by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in this Caribbean nation, Mrs. Inés Fors Fernández. Among the attendees were the Honorable Thomas Tavares-Finson, CD, QC, JP, President of the Senate; Honourable Pearnel Charles, CD, JP, MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Honourable Alando Terrelonge, Member of Parliament and Minister of State for Education; Members of Parliament Dr. Angela Brown Burke and Mr. Fitz Jackson, CD, as well as other officials of the Jamaican legislative branch.
In an atmosphere marked by the solidarity and respect that characterizes the relations between Cuba and Jamaica, the Cuban diplomat made a summarized presentation of the most recent measures implemented by the US government to intensify the economic war against the Largest Island in the Antilles and of the impact of these measures on the life of the Cuban people.
In turn, Jamaican parliamentarians ratified their condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade, the Helms-Burton Act and the additional measures adopted by the US government to try to cut off the country's main sources of income; They expressed their solidarity with the Cuban people and their commitment to promote again this year a parliamentary motion demanding the end of the blockade and the coercive economic measures against Cuba.
