Participants in “AFROFEST 2017” ratifies solidarity with Cuba against the blockade

The First Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba, Julio César Sánchez Martínez attended the Pan African Festival “AFROFEST 2017”, that was held in the “Amissah-Arthur Language Center” of the Cape Coast University.

In the current edition of AFROFEST 2017, a Panel, integrated by the professors, De Valera Botchway, Moussa Traore and Rabbi Kohain, all of them from the University of Cape Coast; the former President of the African Student Empowerment Group (ASEG), Prince Korletey Obuadey, and the First Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba, exchanged ideas on the challenges of the Pan Africanism as ideology for the liberation of African peoples.

The Cuban diplomat exposed a group of ideas on the historic ties between Cuba and Africa, and emphasized on the role of the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro, in building the compromise of Cuba with the African peoples. He also expressed the gratitude of the Cuban people with the African Union for the position adopted against the blockade.

The Panel´s members and the attendants at the AFROFEST 2017 –most of them young Ghanaians- thanked to Cuba for the support of the process of the independence of the African countries. In the same way they expressed the respect for the country that only took from Africa the remains of its internationalist fighters, and ratifies the support to Cuba, which is consider an example of historic resistance. Among the public was a Ghanaian engineer graduate in Cuba, who explained how his staying in the Island contributed to his professional and ethical training.

AFROFEST 2017 was organized by ASEG of the Cape Coast University, and its President, the student Elorm Asimenu, signaled the necessity that the new generation of young Africans assumes the values of Pan Africanism.
