Abuja, August 12, 2025 — The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, participated in the technical preparations of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Research and Innovation, a meeting chaired by the Honourable Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology of Nigeria.
The event was also attended by Ambassador Bolaji Akinremi, Director of the Department of Foreign Service, Reforms and Innovation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country and various government institutions.
In his remarks, Minister Nnaji stressed that this Committee was approved by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and inaugurated by Vice President Kashim Shettima, with the aim of discovering new opportunities for Nigeria’s growth and development, as well as implementing all previously signed agreements related to the fields of science, research and innovation.
On this occasion, it was recalled that Cuba and Nigeria signed a Memorandum of Understanding in this area during the visit of the Vice President of Nigeria to Havana in September 2023, on the occasion of his participation in the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the G77+China. This agreement provides a solid foundation for the development of joint projects that promote knowledge transfer and capacity building in both countries.
The Cuban Ambassador reiterated Cuba’s commitment and readiness to initiate bilateral exchanges with Nigeria in the fields of research and innovation, convinced that cooperation in science and technology is key to sustainable development and to addressing the common challenges of today’s world.
