The Permanent Secretary of Infrastructure of Grenada, Alva Browne, recently welcomed the Ambassador of Cuba to that country, Yadirys Echenique Paz, in a meeting that reaffirmed the commitment of both parties to strengthen bilateral cooperation in this strategic sector.
During the meeting, the Cuban diplomat conveyed greetings from Cuba’s Minister of Construction (MICONS), René Mesa Villafaña, and highlighted the positive state of cooperation between the two nations in the field of infrastructure.
The discussion recalled the history of collaboration in this area, which has included the participation of Cuban professionals in construction projects and technical assistance for works of social interest. The Grenadian side expressed satisfaction with the performance of specialists from the Greater Antilles, who have made significant contributions to the development of local initiatives.
On behalf of both governments, Alva Browne and Echenique Paz assessed the possibility of expanding cooperation in infrastructure, a sphere in which Cuba and Grenada have worked effectively together for nearly five decades.
The meeting also evoked Cuba’s participation in the construction of what is now the Maurice Bishop International Airport, a project that stands as a symbol of the historic cooperation between the two countries. It was emphasized that this undertaking, launched in the 1980s, marked a milestone in Grenada’s infrastructure and remains a testament to Cuba’s commitment to the development of the Caribbean region.
