PNPYO Commends Jamaican and Cuban Medical Teams in the national fight against COVID-19.

Press release from the People’s National Party Youth Organisation

The People’s National Party Youth Organisation (PNPYO) commends the exceptional efforts of our Jamaican health care workers in the fight against COVID-19. At the same time, PNPYO extends a warm welcome to our brothers and sisters from the Republic of Cuba who arrived today to help our nation in the fight against the COVID-19 virus. The 140-member contingent includes specialists who have been part of the prestigious Henry Reeve Brigade - recognised by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for life saving medical work across the world.

“This is a battle-tested team that has arrived in Jamaica and with this team comes evidence of the continued solidarity and friendship between Cuba and Jamaica. They are also a signal of hope, affirming that Jamaica is not fighting this battle alone”, said Krystal Tomlinson, President of the PNPYO.

“With our health system burdened by the added weight of COVID-19, this has been a challenging time for our nation and a test of the courage and commitment of our Jamaican health workers. Our Medical professionals have risen to the occasion on the front lines of the this national response and for that we say, thank you. We are grateful to every single doctor, nurse, technician and essential service provider for your selflessness, professionalism and resilience in the face of crisis. You have unquestionably offered the “strength and vigour” of your body in service of your fellow citizens and for that we are truly grateful,” Tomlinson added.

“We are anticipating the shared knowledge and improved capacity that will manifest through this partnership and encourage all Jamaicans to show all medical professionals - Jamaican and non-Jamaicans - the respect they deserve. Without them this battle cannot be won.”.
