Political leader Peter David condemns accusations against Raúl and expresses support for Cuba

Former Foreign Minister of Grenada, Peter David, appeared on Telesur to voice his support for Cuba and denounce the consequences of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States. In his message, he emphasized that regional solidarity is essential to confront the difficulties faced by the Island and condemned smear campaigns against its historic leaders.

The Grenadian parliamentarian explained that Cuba is experiencing a situation marked by the accumulated effect of more than six decades of sanctions, worsened by the tightening of coercive measures in recent years. He noted that these policies have restricted access to basic resources and affected strategic sectors such as energy, health, and food, directly impacting the daily lives of Cuban families.

David, who is also the political leader of one of Grenada’s main parties, stressed that the international community, and particularly Caribbean nations, must maintain a firm stance of support for Cuba. He recalled that the Island has historically contributed to regional development through medical and educational cooperation, and that it now needs the accompaniment of its neighbours to withstand external pressures.

In his remarks, David also acknowledged the Cuban people’s capacity for resistance, finding alternatives to overcome difficulties—from promoting renewable energy to diversifying international relations. He affirmed that this resilience represents an example of dignity and sovereignty that deserves to be supported and shared.

As part of his responses to questions during the broadcast, the Grenadian leader condemned the accusations against Raúl Castro, one of the historic leaders of the Cuban Revolution, and described such imperialist initiatives as attempts to delegitimize Cuba’s revolutionary history.
