Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Cuba's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, participated in the meeting, where he reiterated Cuba's firm support for the Palestinian people's legitimate rights and called for a just, lasting and definitive solution to the Middle East conflict.
In his speech, he emphasized that lasting peace in the region hinges on resolving the Palestinian issue. He emphasized the importance of immediately and unconditionally admitting Palestine as a full member state of the UN and recognizing its right to establish a sovereign and independent state within the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the right of return for refugees.
The diplomat denounced the colonization practices, forced displacement, crimes against humanity and genocide perpetrated against the Palestinian people. They demanded that attacks on civilian infrastructure and the blockade of humanitarian supplies do not go unpunished. The diplomat stressed the urgent need for the Security Council to take concrete action to stop the genocide in Gaza, guarantee the unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid, and protect the work of UNRWA.
Finally, Cuba urged the immediate resumption of the ceasefire, emphasizing that any reconstruction effort must address the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people. Cuba reiterated its commitment to all international efforts that promote the two-state solution and contribute to genuine peace in the region.
