Kingston, 4 June 2025. The Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, participated in the official opening ceremony of the JACDEN Group Medical Centre, an institution focused on the care of cancer patients, dialysis treatments and other services, which is Staffed by 13 Cuban health specialists. The event was attended by the Honourable Mark Golding, President of the People's National Party (PNP) and Leader of the Opposition, the Honourable Christopher Tufton, Minister of Health and Wellness, among other members of Parliament.
During the ceremony, Dennis Gordon, President of the JACDEN Group, thanked the Cuban institutions for their support, including the Cuban Medical Services Marketing Agency and others in the biopharmaceutical sector. He stated that his first contact with Cuban doctors was during the Covid-19 pandemic when they assisted the Jamaican people, recognising their commitment and preparedness.
For his part, Mark Golding acknowledged the ties between Jamaica and Cuba, describing the presence of our specialists as a sign of ‘generosity’ and assessing that the incorporation of Cuban doctors into the clinic is an example of the bonds that unite both nations.
At the same time, the Minister of Health and Wellness reiterated the importance of Cuba's support for the Jamaican health system. He recalled his visits to the island, recognising the strength of the Cuban primary health care system as an example to follow.
In his remarks to those present, the Cuban Ambassador highlighted the solidarity and altruistic work of thousands of Cuban health specialists in hundreds of countries around the world and reaffirmed Cuba's commitment to the Jamaican people, despite the intensification of the genocidal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on our country. He also stressed that the contribution to this new health facility is another example of the cooperation and bonds of brotherhood between our peoples.
