Accra, 9 September, 2025. – On this Tuesday, the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, received a gift from Fernando González Llort, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and President of ICAP, consisting of a collage of photographs from the ceremony in which he was awarded the Medal of Friendship by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba. This ceremony was held at ICAP headquarters in Havana when, as Vice President, Mahama visited Cuba in 2011.
The medal was awarded for his constant defense of the Cuban social project and his repeated displays of solidarity and appreciation for the island, in the midst of the intense battle that was then being waged for the liberation of the Cuban Five Heroes. He was bestowed in the presence of their families, when Fernando and his four brothers were still unjustly imprisoned in US jails.
The gift was presented on the occasion of the launch of the book “REPARATIONS: History, Struggle, Politics and Law” by writer, journalist, leader of the Socialist Movement of Ghana, and great friend of Cuba Kwesi Pratt Jnr.
