Press release from the Presidency of the Republic of Cuba informed that the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received on Tuesday afternoon, at the Palace of the Revolution, an important delegation from the Republic of Türkiye, whose members represent health institutes of the friendly country, and headed by Professor Doctor Umit Kervan - president of the Turk Türkiye Health Institutes.

On Tuesday afternoon, the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, described the working agenda of a delegation from the Republic of Türkiye, whose members represent important health institutes, as a visit that "is highly significant for us".

In a meeting held at the Palace of the Revolution, which made possible the dialogue between the dignitary and Professor Dr. Umit Kervan - president of the Health Institutes of Türkiye - Díaz-Canel said that the visit is a continuation of meetings held in 2022, when he made an official visit to Türkiye.

The Head of State recalled that at that time, among other activities, "a business forum was held with the participation of several Turkish institutions; and among the agreements we reached with President Erdogan was that of strengthening cooperation in science, innovation, and the development of the Turkish economy.

The Head of State assured the president of the friendly country's Health Institutes, as well as the presidents of the Vaccine Institute and the Biotechnology Institute - who make up the delegation that has arrived in Cuba in response to an invitation extended by Doctor of Science Mayda Mauri Pérez, president of BioCubaFarma - that "after that visit (in 2022) there have been exchanges on both sides; and we believe that with your presence on this occasion, in Cuba, we can now consolidate a whole group of ideas and projects".

For his part, Professor Dr. Umit Kervan said that "it is a great honour to meet you here, to meet your team, and to meet you too, President". The visitor commented that he was aware of how President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Díaz-Canel Bermúdez "share good relations", and how these sentiments "are transferred" to the existing ties between the two countries.

Umit Kervan stressed that his nation's dignitary, and also his subordinates, "support cooperation in the areas of research, development, and science". The objective we are pursuing with this visit," he explained, "is to promote cooperation between Türkiye and Cuba, especially between our institutes and BioCubaFarma (a business organisation that produces high-tech medicines, equipment and services aimed at improving human health).

During the courtesy meeting, the Cuban side was also represented by the Vice-President of the Cuban Government and the Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga; the First Deputy Minister of Public Health, Dr. Tania Margarita Cruz Hernández; as well as the president of BioCubaFarma, Mayda Mauri Pérez; among other officials.
